Kindergarten Classrooms Sample Daily Rhythm
Here’s an example daily schedule for our kindergarten classrooms:
Morning
Arrival and Breakfast
Open–8:30 a.m.
Children play quietly and eat breakfast. As they finish their meal, they can choose activities like reading, building, or drawing until everyone has arrived.
Group Time
8:30 a.m.– 9:15 a.m.
Our day really starts when we gather as a group to welcome each other and talk about the day. We may also read a book together or sing a song!
Reading and Writing
9:15 a.m.–10:30 a.m.
Your child will practice letters, sounds, and common sight words to build early reading skills. They’ll also learn how words and books work through games, books, writing, and more.
Morning Snack
10:30 a.m.–10:45 a.m.
They’ll wash their hands and have a healthy snack like carrots and hummus or cheese and crackers.
Outdoor Play
10:45 a.m.–11:15 a.m.
Children move and play with games that build strength and teamwork. We also talk about good habits like eating healthy food and drinking water.
Math
11:15 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
Children do fun activities to learn about numbers and shapes. They sort objects, make patterns, count, and practice putting numbers in the right order.
Lunch
12:00 p.m.–12:30 p.m.
Time to wash our hands, help set the table, and eat a family-style meal!
Afternoon
Journaling
12:30 p.m.–12:45 p.m.
Children have quiet time to write or draw about their day.
Rest Time
12:45 p.m. –2:00 p.m.
Many children will nap, but if they wake up early or do not fall asleep, they can choose quiet activities, like reading, sewing, or drawing.
Science or Social Studies
2:00 p.m.–2:50 p.m.
Children try simple science projects (like watching plants grow!), ask questions, and talk about what they see. In social studies, they learn about families, neighborhoods, and special traditions.
Group Time
2:50 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.
Every afternoon, we gather to talk about what we learned and share favorite parts of the day.
Activity Centers
3:15 p.m. –Close
After a busy day, children have free time to explore and play on their own. Teachers join in and support.
