Welcome

Knowledge Beginnings in Westwood has been in operation since the spring of 1999. Once inside our doors, you will feel welcomed and comfortable, by our enthusiastic, caring staff and our unusual, fun architecturally structured building. Many of our staff has been here with us since the doors opened and have had the opportunity to build bonds with families over the years. Our center offers a sense of security with key pad entrances at both our front door and our playground door. We have two playgrounds located in the back of our building. The children enter the playground directly from our building. They have the opportunity to run, climb, ride bikes or paint a picture while outside. We are conveniently located on Route 1, next to the Lambert’s Plaza, in Westwood. We are open Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM – 6:00 PM, 52 weeks a year, with only nine major holiday closings. We care for Infants through Prekindergarten in a loving, educational environment.

AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED

We’re so proud!

Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited–nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference, and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.

SCHOOL-READY

Our kids are taking off!

By kindergarten, our kids are testing ahead of their peers. Read all about it.

Accreditation

Many of our child care centers are accredited by national organizations that require us to meet rigorous early childhood education standards and guidelines for high-quality care and education. Programs that are accredited have demonstrated their commitment to go beyond the state’s minimum licensing requirements to meet and maintain these high standards of quality.

Monthly Activities

June's Learning Focus

Children 6 weeks to 3 years old: Wonderful Water and Insects and Spiders

Infants and toddlers will be exploring the wonderful world of water as the children in Discovery Preschool dig into the creepy-crawly world of insects and spiders! Infants will have the chance to practice splashing, scooping, pouring, and playing with bubbles, while toddlers will take a swim on the creative side as they paint with water and create habitats for sea animals. Children in Discovery Preschool will focus on science as they learn about the differences between insects and spiders, how caterpillars turn into butterflies, and how bees pollinate flowers and make honey. Children’s creativity will blossom as they use dried pasta to create butterfly artwork!

Children 4 to 5 years old: Staying Safe and Exploring the Arts

In this modern world, safety is never overrated—and that’s why we take the first half of June to teach children all about how to keep themselves safe in different situations and places. After that, children will delve into the arts as they learn about visual art, musical art, dancing, and acting, and discover the different types of art, music, and dance that exist around the world. Preschoolers will focus on number recognition in order to learn their phone numbers and how to call 911, the Pre-K class will examine how art concepts and techniques are used in famous works of art, and our kindergartners will collaborate on a group project together, such as making first aid kits or choreographing their own dance routine!

Our Programs

Infant Programs (6 weeks - 1 year)

Babies grow and learn every day. Our goal is to provide a safe and nurturing "home away from home" where babies can explore and make new discoveries. We know that learning through play is extremely valuable at this age and our Early Foundations® Infant program is designed to give babies the skills that will serve as the building blocks for a lifetime of learning.

Toddler Programs (1 – 2 Years)

As toddlers develop friendships, self-esteem, and curiosity, our Early Foundations® Toddler program will help them explore their world in a safe and nurturing environment. Our unique curriculum is based on the philosophy that children learn best through experiences. So each day is filled with fun activities that excite and develop toddlers, giving them the comfort and confidence to speak those first few important words, as well as make their first friends.

Preschool Programs (3 – 4 Years)

As preschoolers gain more self-esteem, they may feel ready to take on the world. Our Early Foundations® Preschool program enhances that confidence by providing activities to help children become problem solvers and lifelong learners. Through independent exploration, structured activities, and hands-on learning, children will work on early literacy, math, science, and social studies concepts. A healthy dose of running, jumping, and dancing keeps them active too.

Prekindergarten Programs (4 – 5 Years)

Prekindergartners are preparing for the adventure of a lifetime – school. And our Early Foundations Prekindergarten® program is designed to get them ready by teaching letters and words, math concepts, and valuable social skills. With small group instruction, independent play in an organized atmosphere, and whole-group activities, children will have all the right skills to hop, skip, and jump right into kindergarten.

Participating Child Care Aware Center

KinderCare has partnered with Child Care Aware® of America in an effort to offer fee assistance for Active Duty military families and solutions to their child care needs when care at a Child Development Center on the installation is not available.

Learning Adventures - Enrichment Program

Cooking

The Cooking Adventures program gives children opportunities to participate in fun, developmentally appropriate cooking experiences. They will learn about recipes, ingredients, cooking vocabulary, and the importance of a healthy diet. The curriculum includes lessons on picnics, pizza, and heart-healthy meals.

Music

Ongoing research proves that early exposure to music helps children think, reason, create, and express themselves. Children will laugh and learn about rhythm, vocal melodies, and a variety of musical genres and instruments, which can lower stress and advance memory. Learning never sounded so good.

Phonics & Reading Adventures

Set your child up for advanced success with literacy through phonics, the study of letters and sounds. Reader books, games, and activity cards help your child understand the basics of vowels and blending syllables, giving him confidence and command of language.

Teachers & Staff

We are proud of our long-tenured caregivers. We have a combined total of 110 years of experience within this company! Our teachers have an excellent team ethic and support their families through the early years of care with pride. Our teachers have various backgrounds including moms and grandmas! Our teachers hold degrees ranging from Child Development Associate Credentials to graduate degrees. All of our caregivers hold a State Certificate from the Department of Early Education and Care.

At KinderCare, what families say about us means a lot. Read below some of the great experiences our families have had with us.

Share Your Story
If you have a story about your experience at KinderCare, please share your story with us.

I have had two kids (one has "graduated") go through Knowledge Beginnings. My oldest is now thriving in Kindergarten thanks to the great foundational learning she received, and my youngest has been there since she was a newborn. She loves her teachers! I would recommend the school to anyone!

- Mother

Our two children have been part of the Knowledge Beginnings family for the past four years. During that time, they’ve had the opportunity to experience each classroom, from Infants all the way through to the Prekindergarten class. The staff is fantastic and offers just the right mix of love, caring, discipline and FUN! When I enter the center, I always find my children laughing and enjoying themselves, their friends and their teachers and the teachers always look happy to be there too. Knowledge Beginnings has been an extension of our family for quite a while and my husband and I feel very strongly that we made a great decision in partnering with them.

- Parents

We love Knowledge Beginnings! When struggling with the decision to go back to work after having a child, the staff at Knowledge Beginnings made me feel confident that my child was being cared for and loved just as much as she would be at home.

- Mother

I have two children, ages 4.5 and 16 months, who have both attended the Westwood Knowledge Beginnings since they were 3 months old.  It has been a great experience for them overall.  Our girls have thrived in that environment, much due to the nurturing staff and just the right balance of academic focus and self-directed play.  Our eldest child is quite prepared for kindergarten at this point but still has another year before she starts in public school!

The staff is quite experienced, many of them having worked at the center for 5+ years and who also bring their own children to the location.  Maryellen and Stacey, the Director and Associate Director respectively, are attentive to the needs of the children and their families while continuously guiding the staff toward excellence; recently demonstrated through achieving National accreditation.

Some perceived drawbacks to this center might be: the location - Rt 1 can be quite busy and the parking lot is not huge, but the location was quite convenient for us and we've rarely had a problem with parking. Snacks are provided but lunches are not included in the cost of tuition- this suits our picky eaters!  And the center has recently partnered with a company called Smart Lunches to provide meals for purchase.

We absolutely recommend this center to families seeking a caring place where their children will blossom and grow.
