Welcome

We would like to welcome you to the Hickory Ridge KinderCare Learning Center. We are each committed to providing all of our families with the best experience in early childhood education. We have been serving children and families since 1985.
We are not only NAEYC accredited but have published at a Level 1 in Maryland Excles; and pride ourselves in following the criteria guidelines set forth by both NAEYC, Maryland and KinderCare Learning Centers. We believe in fostering the "Whole Child" by providing enrichment programs and activities that ensure each child excels socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. Our family oriented center provides a warm, nurturing atmosphere for the children. We also make safety of our entire "KinderCare Family" here a priority. We have a Health and Safety Coordinator, Ms. Lauren who has been with us for Three years. She ensures all safety guidelines are followed daily. We feel confident that our many years of experience, as well as our deep commitment and dedication, will provide your family with ease and assurance in your decision making process when choosing a Learning Center for you and your family. We look forward to serving your family in the future.

AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED

We’re so proud!

Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited–nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference, and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.

SCHOOL-READY

Our kids are taking off!

By kindergarten, our kids are testing ahead of their peers. Read all about it.

Accreditation

Many of our child care centers are accredited by national organizations that require us to meet rigorous early childhood education standards and guidelines for high-quality care and education. Programs that are accredited have demonstrated their commitment to go beyond the state’s minimum licensing requirements to meet and maintain these high standards of quality.

Monthly Activities

July's Learning Focus

Children 6 weeks to 3 years old: What’s the Weather and Wonderful Water
This month we go all natural as infants and toddlers are introduced to the weather and children in Discovery Preschool experiment and have fun with water. Sensory adventures will continue for infants as they explore playing with colored water and experiment with how pinwheels and scarves move in the wind. Meanwhile, toddlers will use musical instruments to create the sound of rain and will connect their learning to the world as they role-play different weather scenarios, such as a warm summer day at the beach and a cold, snowy winter day. In Discovery Preschool, children will be learning about different bodies of water as well as how people use water in their everyday lives.

Children 4 to 5 years old: Spectacular Science and All About Books
In the first two weeks of this month, we take older children on a scientific journey of discovery to learn more about the natural world before turning the focus to the amazing world of books! Preschoolers will learn about states of matter, force, motion, and magnetism; children in Pre-K will learn about natural formations like rivers, mountains, and deserts; and kindergarteners will discover the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. When we turn to books, children will learn about the different parts of books, explore the roles of author and illustrator, and learn what makes a book fiction or nonfiction.

November's Learning Focus

Children 6 weeks to 3 years old: Foods and Flavors
This month infants, toddlers, and the little ones in Discovery Preschool will be exploring foods and flavors! It’s never too early to expose children to healthy food—even babies who aren’t eating solids yet. All children will explore, read about, play with, and create around different foods, but each age group will have a different focus. Infants will practice sensory exploration and create their own pretend soup, toddlers will count and measure food items, and the children in Discovery Preschool will learn about the different food groups—including a pretend farmers market.

Children 4–5 years old: Farms and Community
The older children will focus on learning first about farms, and then their community! Farms are filled with so many science- and social science-based learning opportunities for children. Children will learn all about barns and farming equipment, which animals are raised on a farm, and which crops are grown. They’ll also focus on their own communities and learn all about the different kinds of places that exist, the people who live there, and the jobs that those people do.

December's Learning Focus

Children 6 weeks to 3 years old: Family, Friends, and Things that Go!
Infants and toddlers will be exploring family and friends, while three-year-olds will focus on things that go vroom! Social and emotional development is foundational to growth and development in babies, so this month, infants and toddlers will participate in activities that reinforce their connection to family while also exploring connections that exist outside their home, such as friends. Meanwhile, their older friends in Discovery Preschool will learn about and play around with things that move (like bicycles, cars, buses, trains, and airplanes), which are all very exciting for little ones as they continue to explore the world outside their homes.

Children 4–5 years old: My Country + Tools and Machines
The four- and five-year-olds continue exploring the world around them by learning about the state and country they live in! They’ll sings songs, play games based on travel, and learn about flags, state foods, and more. Children will also be introduced to cardinal directions (east, west, north, and south) and gain an appreciation for travel and meeting new friends from different places. Children are naturally fascinated with machines and how things work and are put together. So to encourage that fascination, during the second half of this month children will learn about and play around with tools and machines. In addition to building literacy skills by using the names of machines and tools, children will develop math skills by graphing information, counting wheels, and more.

Our Programs

Infant Programs (6 weeks - 1 year)

Babies grow and learn every day. Our goal is to provide a safe and nurturing "home away from home" where babies can explore and make new discoveries. We know that learning through play is extremely valuable at this age and our Early Foundations® Infant program is designed to give babies the skills that will serve as the building blocks for a lifetime of learning.

Toddler Programs (1 – 2 Years)

As toddlers develop friendships, self-esteem, and curiosity, our Early Foundations® Toddler program will help them explore their world in a safe and nurturing environment. Our unique curriculum is based on the philosophy that children learn best through experiences. So each day is filled with fun activities that excite and develop toddlers, giving them the comfort and confidence to speak those first few important words, as well as make their first friends.

Discovery Preschool Programs (2 – 3 Years)

At this age, children are making new discoveries daily. And as two-year olds begin to exert their independence, our Early Foundations® Discovery Preschool program is prepared to open their eyes to a world of learning, sharing, and exploring. Our holistic approach in the classroom engages young minds with a blend of music, art, and movement, as well as the early education fundamentals they'll need as they continue on to preschool.

Preschool Programs (3 – 4 Years)

As preschoolers gain more self-esteem, they may feel ready to take on the world. Our Early Foundations® Preschool program enhances that confidence by providing activities to help children become problem solvers and lifelong learners. Through independent exploration, structured activities, and hands-on learning, children will work on early literacy, math, science, and social studies concepts. A healthy dose of running, jumping, and dancing keeps them active too.

Prekindergarten Programs (4 – 5 Years)

Prekindergartners are preparing for the adventure of a lifetime – school. And our Early Foundations Prekindergarten® program is designed to get them ready by teaching letters and words, math concepts, and valuable social skills. With small group instruction, independent play in an organized atmosphere, and whole-group activities, children will have all the right skills to hop, skip, and jump right into kindergarten.

Before- & After-School Programs (5 – 12 Years)

Even after school's out for the day, children need to be engaged in a comfortable, yet stimulating environment. That's where our Catch the Wave® program comes in. This innovative before – and after-school program allows school-age children to balance learning and fun through a variety of experiences. From homework help to fun physical activities, our program is designed so that everyone goes home happy.

Summer Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)

Don’t miss out on KinderCare’s Summer of Wonder: Six themed programs that will make summer exciting, educational and tons of fun. Whether your child is in our preschool, Pre-K or school-age programs, all of it is designed to help children learn while soaking up the fun. We offer flexible scheduling options to meet the needs of busy families like yours so we hope to see you there.

Participating Child Care Aware Center

KinderCare has partnered with Child Care Aware® of America in an effort to offer fee assistance for Active Duty military families and solutions to their child care needs when care at a Child Development Center on the installation is not available.

Learning Adventures - Enrichment Program

Cooking

The Cooking Adventures program gives children opportunities to participate in fun, developmentally appropriate cooking experiences. They will learn about recipes, ingredients, cooking vocabulary, and the importance of a healthy diet. The curriculum includes lessons on picnics, pizza, and heart-healthy meals.

Math

The Math Adventures enrichment program is designed to teach important mathematics concepts such as geometry, numbers, measurement, and probability. Your child will learn about length, height, and weight. He will learn about shapes and solids. He will learn how to add, subtract, multiply, and count money. Math is everywhere and giving your child every advantage now will add up to success later in life.

Music

Ongoing research proves that early exposure to music helps children think, reason, create, and express themselves. Children will laugh and learn about rhythm, vocal melodies, and a variety of musical genres and instruments, which can lower stress and advance memory. Learning never sounded so good.

Phonics & Reading Adventures

Set your child up for advanced success with literacy through phonics, the study of letters and sounds. Reader books, games, and activity cards help your child understand the basics of vowels and blending syllables, giving him confidence and command of language.

Teachers & Staff

Here at KinderCare our staff are dedicated to enriching your child's future! We have many staff members who have been dedicated to KinderCare for many years and offer a warm, loving, enriched classroom for children of all ages to thrive in. We hope that you and your family become a part of our KinderCare Family!

If you have a story about your experience at KinderCare, please share your story with us.

I would just like to thank all the people in the infant care room at your Hickory ridge in Colombia MD. They are wonderful ! They treated me with respect and really loved my daughter ! I was so nervous to leave her but they made me feel so comfortable. I also love your Director and Assistant Director they are very professional and helped me with my NACRRA paperwork so while . My husband and I are prior Military and he now works for DoD and and the NACRRA paperwork was sooo confusing and Christine really help explain it all. I really love it there I sadly had to move my daughter to the same Kindercare as her older brother and I could really see the difference .

- Parents

My son's experience at KinderCare has been nothing but great. We are very happy that we enrolled him here. KinderCare has exceptional teachers who not only spend time with all the children but also make sure every child's needs are met. KinderCare also has a great curriculum that has helped my son with this growth and development. Every day we are amazed by how much he is learning at KinderCare. Just yesterday, Ms. Miata helped him write a letter to us and we loved it. Ms. Ashley, who is his phonics and math teacher, does a great job in teaching him reading and math skills. She has provided my son with individual care in phonics and math, which has helped him improve his skills in phonics and learn math at an early age. I definitely have peace of mind at work knowing that my son is well taken care of by such a great staff. I would highly recommend KinderCare to friends and family. Thank you for doing such a great job.

- Mother

My son seems to always be engaged, which makes him enjoy his days at school. Everyone at KinderCare is always attentive and the facilities are always clean. I feel that the staff has taken the time to get to know my son on a personal level, and that to me shows me they care about the children enrolled here. When ever I have an issue, someone is always ready to listen to my concerns and address them accordingly to the the situation. Also, I love the art work my son always brings home. I would completely recommend this KinderCare.
