SC 2014 Wilderness 101 Header

The outdoors has much to offer young children, and during this program, children will experience some of the thrills of the great outdoors without ever leaving the classroom. Activities include a pretend campout complete with stargazing and songs around a campfire, listening for birds, identifying animal tracks, and even “Going on a Bear Hunt”!

Surviving in the wild takes physical strength, resourcefulness, creativity, and teamwork. During this program will learn some of the basics of surviving in the wilderness, including how to use a compass and how to send Morse code messages using flashlights and mirrors. While sitting around a pretend campfire, children will use the “stargazers” they create to look for constellations in the night sky while enjoying a healthful trail-mix snack they make themselves.
