Welcome

"What will my child learn at Las Colinas KinderCare?" This is a question we are often asked by parents of young children as they tour our center.  Research has shown that young children learn best through active, hands-on experiences: In other words, children learn by doing. KinderCare Learning Centers provide a curriculum that allows teachers to organize and structure their environment to meet the needs of the individual children in their classroom. We provide activities that promote growth in each of the six developmental domains. Through open-ended activities, we foster creativity and risk-taking, and allow children the opportunity to test their ideas. Children develop at very different rates, but they all follow predictable patterns in stages and sequence of development. Development cannot be taught or hurried, but can be guided and encouraged--and that is what we strive to do in our programs. The most important thing we can give a child is a love for learning. So, at Las Colinas KinderCare, children are encouraged to become independent, self-confident, enthusiastic, and inquisitive learners. They are encouraged to think for themselves, make decisions, develop problem-solving skills, and communicate their ideas. The teachers all share the same passion and commitment to the education of young children. We provide a strong foundation for our children and prepare them in all areas of development in a loving, nurturing environment where they feel safe and secure.

AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED

We’re so proud!

Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited–nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference, and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.

SCHOOL-READY

Our kids are taking off!

By kindergarten, our kids are testing ahead of their peers. Read all about it.

Accreditation

Many of our child care centers are accredited by national organizations that require us to meet rigorous early childhood education standards and guidelines for high-quality care and education. Programs that are accredited have demonstrated their commitment to go beyond the state’s minimum licensing requirements to meet and maintain these high standards of quality.

Monthly Activities

July's Learning Focus

Children 6 weeks to 3 years old: What’s the Weather and Wonderful Water
This month we go all natural as infants and toddlers are introduced to the weather and children in Discovery Preschool experiment and have fun with water. Sensory adventures will continue for infants as they explore playing with colored water and experiment with how pinwheels and scarves move in the wind. Meanwhile, toddlers will use musical instruments to create the sound of rain and will connect their learning to the world as they role-play different weather scenarios, such as a warm summer day at the beach and a cold, snowy winter day. In Discovery Preschool, children will be learning about different bodies of water as well as how people use water in their everyday lives.

Children 4 to 5 years old: Spectacular Science and All About Books
In the first two weeks of this month, we take older children on a scientific journey of discovery to learn more about the natural world before turning the focus to the amazing world of books! Preschoolers will learn about states of matter, force, motion, and magnetism; children in Pre-K will learn about natural formations like rivers, mountains, and deserts; and kindergarteners will discover the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. When we turn to books, children will learn about the different parts of books, explore the roles of author and illustrator, and learn what makes a book fiction or nonfiction.

November's Learning Focus

Children 6 weeks to 3 years old: Foods and Flavors
This month infants, toddlers, and the little ones in Discovery Preschool will be exploring foods and flavors! It’s never too early to expose children to healthy food—even babies who aren’t eating solids yet. All children will explore, read about, play with, and create around different foods, but each age group will have a different focus. Infants will practice sensory exploration and create their own pretend soup, toddlers will count and measure food items, and the children in Discovery Preschool will learn about the different food groups—including a pretend farmers market.

Children 4–5 years old: Farms and Community
The older children will focus on learning first about farms, and then their community! Farms are filled with so many science- and social science-based learning opportunities for children. Children will learn all about barns and farming equipment, which animals are raised on a farm, and which crops are grown. They’ll also focus on their own communities and learn all about the different kinds of places that exist, the people who live there, and the jobs that those people do.

December's Learning Focus

Children 6 weeks to 3 years old: Family, Friends, and Things that Go!
Infants and toddlers will be exploring family and friends, while three-year-olds will focus on things that go vroom! Social and emotional development is foundational to growth and development in babies, so this month, infants and toddlers will participate in activities that reinforce their connection to family while also exploring connections that exist outside their home, such as friends. Meanwhile, their older friends in Discovery Preschool will learn about and play around with things that move (like bicycles, cars, buses, trains, and airplanes), which are all very exciting for little ones as they continue to explore the world outside their homes.

Children 4–5 years old: My Country + Tools and Machines
The four- and five-year-olds continue exploring the world around them by learning about the state and country they live in! They’ll sings songs, play games based on travel, and learn about flags, state foods, and more. Children will also be introduced to cardinal directions (east, west, north, and south) and gain an appreciation for travel and meeting new friends from different places. Children are naturally fascinated with machines and how things work and are put together. So to encourage that fascination, during the second half of this month children will learn about and play around with tools and machines. In addition to building literacy skills by using the names of machines and tools, children will develop math skills by graphing information, counting wheels, and more.

Our Programs

Infant Programs (6 weeks - 1 year)

Babies grow and learn every day. Our goal is to provide a safe and nurturing "home away from home" where babies can explore and make new discoveries. We know that learning through play is extremely valuable at this age and our Early Foundations® Infant program is designed to give babies the skills that will serve as the building blocks for a lifetime of learning.

Toddler Programs (1 – 2 Years)

As toddlers develop friendships, self-esteem, and curiosity, our Early Foundations® Toddler program will help them explore their world in a safe and nurturing environment. Our unique curriculum is based on the philosophy that children learn best through experiences. So each day is filled with fun activities that excite and develop toddlers, giving them the comfort and confidence to speak those first few important words, as well as make their first friends.

Discovery Preschool Programs (2 – 3 Years)

At this age, children are making new discoveries daily. And as two-year olds begin to exert their independence, our Early Foundations® Discovery Preschool program is prepared to open their eyes to a world of learning, sharing, and exploring. Our holistic approach in the classroom engages young minds with a blend of music, art, and movement, as well as the early education fundamentals they'll need as they continue on to preschool.

Preschool Programs (3 – 4 Years)

As preschoolers gain more self-esteem, they may feel ready to take on the world. Our Early Foundations® Preschool program enhances that confidence by providing activities to help children become problem solvers and lifelong learners. Through independent exploration, structured activities, and hands-on learning, children will work on early literacy, math, science, and social studies concepts. A healthy dose of running, jumping, and dancing keeps them active too.

Prekindergarten Programs (4 – 5 Years)

Prekindergartners are preparing for the adventure of a lifetime – school. And our Early Foundations Prekindergarten® program is designed to get them ready by teaching letters and words, math concepts, and valuable social skills. With small group instruction, independent play in an organized atmosphere, and whole-group activities, children will have all the right skills to hop, skip, and jump right into kindergarten.

Before- & After-School Programs (5 – 12 Years)

Even after school's out for the day, children need to be engaged in a comfortable, yet stimulating environment. That's where our Catch the Wave® program comes in. This innovative before – and after-school program allows school-age children to balance learning and fun through a variety of experiences. From homework help to fun physical activities, our program is designed so that everyone goes home happy.

Summer Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)

Don’t miss out on KinderCare’s Summer of Wonder: Six themed programs that will make summer exciting, educational and tons of fun. Whether your child is in our preschool, Pre-K or school-age programs, all of it is designed to help children learn while soaking up the fun. We offer flexible scheduling options to meet the needs of busy families like yours so we hope to see you there.

Learning Adventures - Enrichment Program

Cooking

The Cooking Adventures program gives children opportunities to participate in fun, developmentally appropriate cooking experiences. They will learn about recipes, ingredients, cooking vocabulary, and the importance of a healthy diet. The curriculum includes lessons on picnics, pizza, and heart-healthy meals.

Math

The Math Adventures enrichment program is designed to teach important mathematics concepts such as geometry, numbers, measurement, and probability. Your child will learn about length, height, and weight. He will learn about shapes and solids. He will learn how to add, subtract, multiply, and count money. Math is everywhere and giving your child every advantage now will add up to success later in life.

Music

Ongoing research proves that early exposure to music helps children think, reason, create, and express themselves. Children will laugh and learn about rhythm, vocal melodies, and a variety of musical genres and instruments, which can lower stress and advance memory. Learning never sounded so good.

Phonics & Reading Adventures

Set your child up for advanced success with literacy through phonics, the study of letters and sounds. Reader books, games, and activity cards help your child understand the basics of vowels and blending syllables, giving him confidence and command of language.

    Ms. Samantha Whetzell, Center Director

It brings me great joy to see the positive impact we have on each child and his or her family. It is our mission to make each family who walks in our building a part of our KinderCare family. Our center is dedicated to helping each unique child grow and develop in a clean, safe, welcoming environment. As a team, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. My goal is to positively impact the lives of as many children as possible. After all, they are our future!

Ms. Samantha began her career in early childhood education working one-on-one with children ages three to five in a psycho-social group setting who had been diagnosed with behavioral disorders. In 2007, she began teaching the Prekindergarten program at a KinderCare in Colorado. She transferred to Texas in 2010 and has filled many positions throughout her time here. • Ms. Francheska Parker, Assistant Director

I started working with kids at a very young age, always knowing that one day I would like to teach kids and help them to become great people. I truly believe that the first couple of years are what develops a child to become the adult they become. Knowing that the right attitude, passion, and determination can impact a child's life in a such a big, wonderful way is very rewarding to me. Seeing their faces light up while I am educating them and they are understanding is the only recognition I need.

  • Ms. Arielle, Middlebrook

My goal is to provide an entertaining and educational classroom in which all children can flourish. As a leader in early childhood education, KinderCare has provided me the tools I need to create successful students. Through Cooking, Math, Music, Phonics, and Reading classes, I will help your child build brain power through hands-on learning experiences. These experiences will develop your child's ability to problem solve, observe, predict, and explore cause-and-effect relationships and math relationships, such as classification. It is my mission to ensure that each child is ready for success in elementary school.

Ms. Arielle and her family relocated from California in March of 2016, when she began her tenure at Las Colinas KinderCare. She is a third generation educator and has been working in education since she was 19 years old. Ms. Arielle has a young son, Maddox who is her inspiration. • Ms. Alexis

    Ms. Alexis, Preschool Classroom

Ms Alexis started with KinderCare in June of 2015 as the Lead Teacher for our Preschool program. Her young daughter, Aubree, was first a student with us, which inspired Ms. Alexis to join our KinderCare family. Her daughter is the reason Ms Alexis is so passionate about teaching to each child's unique abilities and needs. Ms Alexis' excitement for teaching really shines through the evidence of learning displayed throughout her classroom. Her goal is to enhance children's development by providing opportunities for independent exploration, structured activities, and a variety of hands-on learning experiences. Each child in her classroom will develop skills and knowledge in areas like early literacy and language, mathematics, science, Spanish, and social skills. Ms. Alexis adapts her teaching style and curriculum to meet the needs of each individual child. For many children, preschool is their first experience in a structured setting with teachers and groups of children. Ms. Alexis recognizes that children's backgrounds and experiences mean that they do not learn the same things at the same time in the same way, so she stays flexible and patient with children.

Health and Safety

The staff at Las Colinas KinderCare take the health and safety of the children very seriously. We have a keypad entry system at the front door to monitor who is coming and going. Only parents are given the code and the management team is vigilant about checking to see who is coming in the front door at all times. We have a well-maintained, beautiful playground. It is fenced and the gates remain securely locked at all times. All staff members are trained in First Aid and CPR. The teachers who work with children under the age of two are required to have training in recognizing and preventing sudden infant death syndrome and shaken baby syndrome, and are trained to understand early childhood brain development. All of our staff are required to obtain 24 hours of training annually. Our center has an emergency preparedness plan and practices fire and emergency drills on a monthly basis and bad weather drills quarterly.

At KinderCare, what families say about us means a lot. Read below some of the great experiences our families have had with us.

If you have a story about your experience at KinderCare, please share your story with us.

We love it here! My daughter has been in the Infant Classroom since she was seven weeks old and it has been such a blessing for her and our family! The teachers are incredible, and really care for my daughter and all the kids in the class!  I love that they are so involved and treat every child like their own! Ms. Veronica and Ms. Karina are always there in the morning to greet my daughter with a smile and excitement; so excited to see her and my husband or I when dropping her off. They are always playing with the infants on the ground, encouraging them to be active and grow in their development using curriculum. They truly care about the growth of each child and celebrate every victory. I also feel the same when I come to pick her up with Ms. Melissa and Ms. Brittany. I am so incredibly thankful for the teachers and the love they show my daughter every day. Every day I go to work in peace, knowing she is well taken care of and loved. Also, Ms Samantha is very involved at the center every day. She is friendly and patient! Every teacher there really makes every effort to get to know the families and build relationships with them; they are very hands-on and friendly. They really make a great team and I am lucky to have found such a great place for my daughter to continue to grow!

- Mother

We moved to Irving, TX last year from our home country for an assignment with our son, who was just three-and-a-half years old at that time. He was very small and was sad to have come so far away from all the relatives and friends back home. This was a new place and he had never interacted with anybody in the past in any language other than his mother tongue (non-English). After couple of visits and interaction with the Las Colinas KinderCare Center Director and teachers, we finalized this center for our child as his first preschool. Fortunately, he had no problem saying goodbye to his dad in this center at drop-off time and was always excited to show me his classroom and friends. To be honest, everything they said was true, and the love and affection that his teachers Ms. Susan, Ms. Jennifer, and all the others provided over this one year was more than anybody at home. Within few months, he started to understand emotions -- his own and others. He started using simple expressions such as "I'm sad!," "I'm happy!," "Great Idea!" to let us know how he was feeling. We found a dramatic improvement in his communication and social skills that was a major developmental milestone in a short period. It's been a year now and we are moving back to our home country next week. I never thought that we would so easily find a place that loves and honors the child so much that it will remain as a beautiful experience that will stay in his soul as well as his mind for his entire life.
