AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED

We’re so proud!

Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited–nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference, and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.

SCHOOL-READY

Our kids are taking off!

By kindergarten, our kids are testing ahead of their peers. Read all about it.

Accreditation

Many of our child care centers are accredited by national organizations that require us to meet rigorous early childhood education standards and guidelines for high-quality care and education. Programs that are accredited have demonstrated their commitment to go beyond the state’s minimum licensing requirements to meet and maintain these high standards of quality.

Monthly Activities

July's Learning Focus

Children 6 weeks to 3 years old: What’s the Weather and Wonderful Water
This month we go all natural as infants and toddlers are introduced to the weather and children in Discovery Preschool experiment and have fun with water. Sensory adventures will continue for infants as they explore playing with colored water and experiment with how pinwheels and scarves move in the wind. Meanwhile, toddlers will use musical instruments to create the sound of rain and will connect their learning to the world as they role-play different weather scenarios, such as a warm summer day at the beach and a cold, snowy winter day. In Discovery Preschool, children will be learning about different bodies of water as well as how people use water in their everyday lives.

Children 4 to 5 years old: Spectacular Science and All About Books
In the first two weeks of this month, we take older children on a scientific journey of discovery to learn more about the natural world before turning the focus to the amazing world of books! Preschoolers will learn about states of matter, force, motion, and magnetism; children in Pre-K will learn about natural formations like rivers, mountains, and deserts; and kindergarteners will discover the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. When we turn to books, children will learn about the different parts of books, explore the roles of author and illustrator, and learn what makes a book fiction or nonfiction.

November's Learning Focus

Children 6 weeks to 3 years old: Foods and Flavors
This month infants, toddlers, and the little ones in Discovery Preschool will be exploring foods and flavors! It’s never too early to expose children to healthy food—even babies who aren’t eating solids yet. All children will explore, read about, play with, and create around different foods, but each age group will have a different focus. Infants will practice sensory exploration and create their own pretend soup, toddlers will count and measure food items, and the children in Discovery Preschool will learn about the different food groups—including a pretend farmers market.

Children 4–5 years old: Farms and Community
The older children will focus on learning first about farms, and then their community! Farms are filled with so many science- and social science-based learning opportunities for children. Children will learn all about barns and farming equipment, which animals are raised on a farm, and which crops are grown. They’ll also focus on their own communities and learn all about the different kinds of places that exist, the people who live there, and the jobs that those people do.

December's Learning Focus

Children 6 weeks to 3 years old: Family, Friends, and Things that Go!
Infants and toddlers will be exploring family and friends, while three-year-olds will focus on things that go vroom! Social and emotional development is foundational to growth and development in babies, so this month, infants and toddlers will participate in activities that reinforce their connection to family while also exploring connections that exist outside their home, such as friends. Meanwhile, their older friends in Discovery Preschool will learn about and play around with things that move (like bicycles, cars, buses, trains, and airplanes), which are all very exciting for little ones as they continue to explore the world outside their homes.

Children 4–5 years old: My Country + Tools and Machines
The four- and five-year-olds continue exploring the world around them by learning about the state and country they live in! They’ll sings songs, play games based on travel, and learn about flags, state foods, and more. Children will also be introduced to cardinal directions (east, west, north, and south) and gain an appreciation for travel and meeting new friends from different places. Children are naturally fascinated with machines and how things work and are put together. So to encourage that fascination, during the second half of this month children will learn about and play around with tools and machines. In addition to building literacy skills by using the names of machines and tools, children will develop math skills by graphing information, counting wheels, and more.

Our Programs

Infant Programs (6 weeks - 1 year)

Babies grow and learn every day. Our goal is to provide a safe and nurturing "home away from home" where babies can explore and make new discoveries. We know that learning through play is extremely valuable at this age and our Early Foundations® Infant program is designed to give babies the skills that will serve as the building blocks for a lifetime of learning.

Toddler Programs (1 – 2 Years)

As toddlers develop friendships, self-esteem, and curiosity, our Early Foundations® Toddler program will help them explore their world in a safe and nurturing environment. Our unique curriculum is based on the philosophy that children learn best through experiences. So each day is filled with fun activities that excite and develop toddlers, giving them the comfort and confidence to speak those first few important words, as well as make their first friends.

Discovery Preschool Programs (2 – 3 Years)

At this age, children are making new discoveries daily. And as two-year olds begin to exert their independence, our Early Foundations® Discovery Preschool program is prepared to open their eyes to a world of learning, sharing, and exploring. Our holistic approach in the classroom engages young minds with a blend of music, art, and movement, as well as the early education fundamentals they'll need as they continue on to preschool.

Preschool Programs (3 – 4 Years)

As preschoolers gain more self-esteem, they may feel ready to take on the world. Our Early Foundations® Preschool program enhances that confidence by providing activities to help children become problem solvers and lifelong learners. Through independent exploration, structured activities, and hands-on learning, children will work on early literacy, math, science, and social studies concepts. A healthy dose of running, jumping, and dancing keeps them active too.

Prekindergarten Programs (4 – 5 Years)

Prekindergartners are preparing for the adventure of a lifetime – school. And our Early Foundations Prekindergarten® program is designed to get them ready by teaching letters and words, math concepts, and valuable social skills. With small group instruction, independent play in an organized atmosphere, and whole-group activities, children will have all the right skills to hop, skip, and jump right into kindergarten.

Before- & After-School Programs (5 – 12 Years)

Even after school's out for the day, children need to be engaged in a comfortable, yet stimulating environment. That's where our Catch the Wave® program comes in. This innovative before – and after-school program allows school-age children to balance learning and fun through a variety of experiences. From homework help to fun physical activities, our program is designed so that everyone goes home happy.

Summer Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)

Don’t miss out on KinderCare’s Summer of Wonder: Six themed programs that will make summer exciting, educational and tons of fun. Whether your child is in our preschool, Pre-K or school-age programs, all of it is designed to help children learn while soaking up the fun. We offer flexible scheduling options to meet the needs of busy families like yours so we hope to see you there.

Teachers & Staff

Our teachers and staff at Norton Road KinderCare are dedicated to keeping children safe, along with educating and nurturing every child in our care. Our teachers have an average of four years at our center and an average of nine years in the early childhood education field. Most of our teachers have their Child Development Associate's credential, are enrolled and working towards their credential, or are in a local school to gain more education in the early childhood field. Our teachers and staff are always seeking ways to gain more knowledge and our bi-annual Professional Development days are a great way we provide an education about the specific age groups each staff member teaches in.

    Jennifer Johnson, Center Director

I love the moments in my day where I can sit on the floor and help a child build a large tower, get silly and read a story with funny voices, or watch a child's face as they solve a problem on their own for the first time. I also love being able to share these moments with parents as they pick up every evening and watching them light up about the accomplishments their child has achieved.

Jennifer grew up in California before moving to Ohio to play softball at The Ohio State University where she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in English in 2005. Upon graduating she knew she wanted to work in the Early Childhood field so she started as a prekindergarten teacher at KinderCare in July of 2005. Her favorite part of being a Prekindergarten teacher was being able to sing, dance, and have fun at every point in the day. She then became a program specialist for one year before becoming as assistant director in 2008. Jennifer took over as the Center Director at our Norton Road location in 2010 and really prides herself on keeping children safe and being a resource for families about community events and child development.

Health and Safety

At KinderCare Learning Centers, your child's safety is one of our top priorities. Not only are all of our outside perimeter doors locked to ensure security, but all of our playgrounds are fenced with locked gates as well. In addition the front door of the building has a coded entry where only authorized family members will have a code to enter. Otherwise a door bell is available to visitors who will be greeted by a Center staff member. At Norton Road KinderCare we have a Health and Safety Coordinator on site as well. Michelle's role includes conducting monthly tornado and fire drills, ensuring all classrooms are self and well maintained, and maintaining our high cleaning standards.

At KinderCare, what families say about us means a lot. Read below some of the great experiences our families have had with us.

Share Your Story
If you have a story about your experience at KinderCare, please share your story with us.

As a parent, it’s hard to leave your child with someone else when you go to work. Being a single mother of 3 I have no choice but to work full-time. I have trusted the staff at Kinder Care with my children for the past 13 years. The first time I toured the facility, I immediately felt at ease. The center was clean, organized, cheerful and most importantly the children seemed happy and healthy. The caliber of the staff is what really sets it apart from other daycare centers. There are fun activities planned throughout the year, from special guest speakers to summer time field trips. The staff at Kinder Care is committed to helping children obtain a strong foundation and maximum growth through the emotional, physical, social and cognitive areas.

- Parent

Our family made a huge move from sunny Florida to Columbus, Ohio during the summer of 2013. This move was a time of stress for both our children, Jaxon was 5 and Leah was 2 at the time. For our son Jaxon, not only was the move a life changing event for him, but he was beginning kindergarten, and needed to attend a new childcare center for before and after care. Our daughter Leah, had only received care in a small in-home facility with 3 other children up to this point. Our local KinderCare Learning Center did a fabulous job at making our children feel welcome. The teachers were very considerate of their feelings and greeted them every morning with a smile, hug, and engaging activity to help with the separation anxiety and transition. Over the past 2 years my husband and I have watched our children flourish, and the teachers at KinderCare have played a large role in their growth, socially, emotionally, and academically. We have found more than a place to leave our children while we work; we have found an extension of our home!
