Welcome

Welcome to Telegraph Road KinderCare! We are an early childhood education and day care center located in Alexandria, VA and have been a strong part of the Alexandria community since 1977.  In 2014, Northern Virginia Magazine named our center one of the Top Daycare/ Preschool Providers! We became accredited by the National Association of Childcare Providers in 2010 and maintain this accreditation.

Conveniently located between South Kings Highway and Fort Belvoir, we are here to service the community, and even offer a 5% military discount. Telegraph Road KinderCare is the perfect option for a daycare or preschool near Fort Belvoir, Coast Guard, and near Kingstowne, VA.

We provide daycare and well-rounded curriculums for children ages 14 months to 7 years of age on a full- or part-time basis. We have an amazing playground which allows the children plenty of room for movement. It also allows us to take our preschool and pre kindergarten activities outside to discover and learn. Our classrooms are small and intimate which allows staff to offer ultimate child care services. All of our staff hold a B.A./ B.S. or a CDA and are certified in CPR and First Aid.

We look forward to showing you our center and would love to have you meet our staff. Schedule a tour today to see our toddler program, preschool curriculum, pre k activities, and transitional kindergarten programs!

Accreditation

Many of our child care centers are accredited by national organizations that require us to meet rigorous early childhood education standards and guidelines for high-quality care and education. Programs that are accredited have demonstrated their commitment to go beyond the state’s minimum licensing requirements to meet and maintain these high standards of quality.

Our Programs

Toddler Programs (1 – 2 Years)

As toddlers develop friendships, self-esteem, and curiosity, our Early Foundations® Toddler program will help them explore their world in a safe and nurturing environment. Our unique curriculum is based on the philosophy that children learn best through experiences. So each day is filled with fun activities that excite and develop toddlers, giving them the comfort and confidence to speak those first few important words, as well as make their first friends.

Discovery Preschool Programs (2 – 3 Years)

At this age, children are making new discoveries daily. And as two-year olds begin to exert their independence, our Early Foundations® Discovery Preschool program is prepared to open their eyes to a world of learning, sharing, and exploring. Our holistic approach in the classroom engages young minds with a blend of music, art, and movement, as well as the early education fundamentals they'll need as they continue on to preschool.

Preschool Programs (3 – 4 Years)

As preschoolers gain more self-esteem, they may feel ready to take on the world. Our Early Foundations® Preschool program enhances that confidence by providing activities to help children become problem solvers and lifelong learners. Through independent exploration, structured activities, and hands-on learning, children will work on early literacy, math, science, and social studies concepts. A healthy dose of running, jumping, and dancing keeps them active too.

Prekindergarten Programs (4 – 5 Years)

Prekindergartners are preparing for the adventure of a lifetime – school. And our Early Foundations Prekindergarten® program is designed to get them ready by teaching letters and words, math concepts, and valuable social skills. With small group instruction, independent play in an organized atmosphere, and whole-group activities, children will have all the right skills to hop, skip, and jump right into kindergarten.

Summer Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)

Don’t miss out on KinderCare’s Summer of Wonder: Six themed programs that will make summer exciting, educational and tons of fun. Whether your child is in our preschool, Pre-K or school-age programs, all of it is designed to help children learn while soaking up the fun. We offer flexible scheduling options to meet the needs of busy families like yours so we hope to see you there.

Learning Adventures - Enrichment Program

Cooking

The Cooking Adventures program gives children opportunities to participate in fun, developmentally appropriate cooking experiences. They will learn about recipes, ingredients, cooking vocabulary, and the importance of a healthy diet. The curriculum includes lessons on picnics, pizza, and heart-healthy meals.

Math

The Math Adventures enrichment program is designed to teach important mathematics concepts such as geometry, numbers, measurement, and probability. Your child will learn about length, height, and weight. He will learn about shapes and solids. He will learn how to add, subtract, multiply, and count money. Math is everywhere and giving your child every advantage now will add up to success later in life.

Music

Ongoing research proves that early exposure to music helps children think, reason, create, and express themselves. Children will laugh and learn about rhythm, vocal melodies, and a variety of musical genres and instruments, which can lower stress and advance memory. Learning never sounded so good.

Phonics & Reading Adventures

Set your child up for advanced success with literacy through phonics, the study of letters and sounds. Reader books, games, and activity cards help your child understand the basics of vowels and blending syllables, giving him confidence and command of language.

Spanish

Spanish Adventures provides young learners with a foundation for later success with the Spanish language. Music, games, children's Spanish literature, and other tools give children multiple opportunities to hear, practice, and see Spanish language for vocabulary and conversational development. Curriculum includes lessons on greetings, numbers, colors, animals, family, body parts and pets as well as how to get engage conversationally during common scenarios at home, a restaurant, or at the zoo. 1. January's Learning Focus

Children 6 weeks to 3 years old: Light and Dark, plus the Sky and Weather

Through shadow play, experiments with flashlights, observing the Sun and more, infants and toddlers will enjoy learning about light and dark this month. Infants continue sensory development by looking at contrasting patterns and at objects that are clearly defined by sharp edges and bright colors, while toddlers will build on their understanding of the light and dark concepts with play around daytime and nighttime. The older Discovery Preschool children will turn their attention to the sky as they learn about weather, the Moon, the Sun, and stars.

Children 4–5 years old: Transportation, Healthy Bodies, and Winter

For children in the Preschool and Kindergarten classrooms, January is filled with variety! They’ll begin by learning about transportation and studying how things get from “here” to “there.” A few weeks later, the focus will shift to health and bodies, with an emphasis placed on how to make good choices for a growing body. Towards the end of the month, children will be introduced to the transformative nature of the winter season and learn how to dress and take care of themselves when it’s cold outside.

  1. Thursday December 01, 2016
    1. December's Learning Focus

Children 6 weeks to 3 years old: Family, Friends, and Things that Go!

Infants and toddlers will be exploring family and friends, while three-year-olds will focus on things that go vroom! Social and emotional development is foundational to growth and development in babies, so this month, infants and toddlers will participate in activities that reinforce their connection to family while also exploring connections that exist outside their home, such as friends. Meanwhile, their older friends in Discovery Preschool will learn about and play around with things that move (like bicycles, cars, buses, trains, and airplanes), which are all very exciting for little ones as they continue to explore the world outside their homes.

Children 4–5 years old: My Country + Tools and Machines

The four- and five-year-olds continue exploring the world around them by learning about the state and country they live in! They’ll sings songs, play games based on travel, and learn about flags, state foods, and more. Children will also be introduced to cardinal directions (east, west, north, and south) and gain an appreciation for travel and meeting new friends from different places.

Children are naturally fascinated with machines and how things work and are put together. So to encourage that fascination, during the second half of this month children will learn about and play around with tools and machines. In addition to building literacy skills by using the names of machines and tools, children will develop math skills by graphing information, counting wheels, and more.

Health and Safety

Quality early childhood education and day care centers begin with a safe environment. At our learning center, keypad entry systems are located on the front and back doors. You must have the key code to gain access to the building; code is changed every 6 months. All of the staff are CPR and First Aid certified. Management and selected teachers are trained and certified in MAT (Medication Administration Training). Each day, families clock their children in/out using the computer located in the entrance and teachers account for all children in their care every 30 minutes with a name-to-face check. Our enormous playground is completely fenced in and the gates are secured. All Virginia state licensing standards are vigorously upheld in addition to all of KinderCare's corporate standards. Center policies are in place concerning allergies, emergency preparedness, authorized pick-up, and injury reporting. Fire and disaster drills are regularly performed.

At KinderCare, what families say about us means a lot. Read below some of the great experiences our families have had with us.

If you have a story about your experience at KinderCare, please share your story with us.

My son came to Telegraph Road KinderCare at 14 months and he really loves being there. Each day when I take him there he's always happy to be there. I would love to thank all the staff members who made the transition easy for me with placing him in day care. The staff is great and the teachers are as well.

- Mother

Thank you for making my daughter feel loved, valued, smart, and safe every day!

- Telegraph Rd. KinderCare Pre Kindergarten Parent

KinderCare Family - We absolutely love what care, love, and education you have provided for Naomi these last few years! We wouldn't' change it for the world. Naomi has blossomed into an articulate, hilarious, little girl with help of your care & guidance. We can't thank you all enough for the peace of mind!

- Telegraph Rd. KinderCare Pre Kindergarten Mother

One year in Phonics has completely changed my child's life. Everywhere we go, she is sounding out the store names, the sign names, and basically every word we see. Ms. Angelica's tireless energy and positive attitude are just a bonus on top of a great class. My daughter looks forward to every second spent with Ms. Angelica and really enjoyed the 'take home' books, puppets and stickers!!

- Telegraph Rd. KinderCare Pre Kindergarten Mother

Thank you for showing so much love and patience with Piper, Fletch, and Deacon. The teachers have made my kids' day so fun and happy, while also teaching them with love and patience.

- Telegraph Rd. KinderCare Toddler & Pre K Parent

I write to say, "thank you." Both our girls attended your pre-school program and were more than prepared for elementary school. Our second grader was just accepted into Fairfax County Public School's Advanced Academic Program. In addition, our kindergartner is thriving in her classroom. Her teacher says she wishes every student was just like her. She can add and subtract double digit numbers in her head and she reads on a 2nd grade level. All this in Kindergarten! We're so glad we used Kindercare's Learning Adventures reading program.

We're just so proud of them and know their time in preschool helped them tremendously. Everyone at Kindercare helped to shape my children, but I'd like the send a special thanks to Ms. Kathy, Ms. Angelica, Ms. Monica, Ms. Jasmine, and Ms. Andrea. They all contributed to the education of my girls! Thank you!

- Telegraph Road KinderCare Parent

Our son has made huge strides in terms of social interaction because of you guys. The original daycare we had him at was huge, so there wasn't a lot of curriculum or personal attention. We noticed an immediate change to his personality when he went to KinderCare. After only a few weeks, he knew the names of all the teachers and was excited about going to school! In fact, he said he didn’t want to leave school the first week he was there. We were hesitant to place our kids in an "off base" facility (meaning away from a military base). We are completely satisfied! Your center is worth every penny, and I know it will pay off in years time when our kids continue to benefit from the solid foundation that you've provided. Telegraph KinderCare is worth its weight in gold!

- Telegraph Rd. KinderCare Preschool Parents

Michelle has learned a world of information already. She has tremendously improved her ability to write her full name. This is a great foundation for Kindergarten.
