2009 Knowledge Universe Early Childhood Educator Awards
November marked the culmination of the 2009 Knowledge Universe Early Childhood Educator Awards, as the five winning Educators, including four from KinderCare Learning Centers, were honored during the NAEYC Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.
Our Educator Award winners took in several sessions at the conference, which is the largest of its kind, and spent many important hours meeting with key difference makers.
Lisa Anderson (KinderCare Westmont, IL), Y-Nhi Huynh (KinderCare Mountain View, CA), Barbara Skinner (KinderCare Sunrise, FL), and Christy Sullivan (KinderCare Huber Heights, OH) were presented to a crowd of Early Childhood Education influencers, policy makers, and media, at a Knowledge Universe-hosted event on November 20th. The event featured a video of the surprise presentations at the four KinderCare Learning Centers, as well as testimony from center staff, parents, and children.
It was a whirlwind week in Washington, as our Educators spent parts of two days meeting with Members of Congress on Capitol Hill. Despite the busy legislative week for our United States Senators and Representatives, the Members took the time and made the effort to meet these extraordinary teachers, face-to-face.
The week was capped with a rare visit to the top of the Capitol Dome (what a view the group had!) and an even rarer private tour of the West Wing of the White House, which was buzzing with activity in the wake of President Obama’s return from Asia, and the preparations for the upcoming State Dinner held in honor of the Indian prime minister.
It was a week full of excitement, relationship-building, storytelling, sharing of best practices, and seeing and learning new things. Quite a fitting way to wrap up this year’s Educator Awards!
