Go Ahead, Color Outside the Lines. (KinderCare Kids Do It All the Time.)

We love art in our classrooms—but not just any art. Rather than asking children to make crafts in which they have to copy a design (with googly eyes placed in exactly the right place), we provide our children a variety of materials and let them, well, really go for it! Called child-directed art, this approach allows children to really express themselves and explore the materials in their own way. “For children, it is the process of creating, not the end product that is most important,” notes KinderCare Education’s Meg Davis. Check out the video and see what child-directed art is all about!
