Fun with Strawberries

May is National Strawberry Month!  Strawberries are one of the best sources of Vitamin C and also contain fiber, potassium and antioxidants.  Here are two simple strawberry recipes that you and your children can make together, courtesy of Carly, KinderCare’s Registered Dietitian.

Rainbow Fruit Salad

Ingredients:

  • Strawberries
  • Oranges
  • Mango
  • Kiwi
  • Blueberries
  • Grapes

Directions:

  • Dice fruit and arrange on a plate or mix together

Involve your child:

  • Have your child  help pick out fruit in the grocery store (talk about the color of fruit, sizes and shapes, count number of fruits needed, organize the cart)
  • Have your child dice the fruit (with a plastic knife)
  • Mix the fruit together in a bowl

Strawberry Yogurt Parfait

Ingredients:

  • Vanilla yogurt
  • Strawberries, diced
  • Bananas, sliced
  • Graham crackers

Directions:

  • Add a scoop of vanilla yogurt
  • Add diced strawberries and sliced bananas
  • Add graham cracker slices to the side of the bowl

Involve your child:

  • Help pick out yogurt and fruit in grocery store
  • Scoop yogurt into bowls
  • Help cut strawberries and bananas (with a plastic knife)
