Fall Recipe: Simple Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce

For most households, our children are heading back to school this week. This means more hectic schedules, including homework, soccer practice, PTA meetings, parent-teacher conferences and late night study sessions. Slow cookers are a great time saver for the busy parent who needs to get a satisfying and healthy dinner on the table. Slow cookers are great for a more intense and rich flavor, especially spaghetti sauce! Try this kid-friendly recipe, which makes enough sauce for several meals.

Simple Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients

1 lb. ground beef

1 lb. ground Italian sausage

3 large jars spaghetti sauce (24-28 oz. each)

¼ cup minced garlic

Directions

Brown ground beef and sausage with garlic. Drain excess oil.

Add meat to crock pot.

Add spaghetti sauce.  Mix meat and sauce.

Cook on low for 8-10 hours.

This recipe will leave you with 3-4 extra meals! Portion extra sauce into containers or freezer bags and freeze.

Helpful Hints

For chunky sauce, add 2 cans diced tomatoes.

For smoother sauce, run the meat through a food processor.

For increased vegetable intake, add carrots, zucchini & diced tomatoes to food processor.
